About the event
We are absolutely thrilled to be joined by Toby Hughes, one of the foremost double bassists in the UK acclaimed for his exceptional talent and virtuosity. This concert is going to showcase the double bass and you'll hear the instrument in ways you never thought possible!
The main work of the programme is a really gorgeous piece of chamber music, Vaughan William's quintet in C minor for violin, viola, cello, piano and double bass which will be preceded by an extraordinary mix of music, from contempory, to folk, to a romantic virtuosic show piece for the double bass.
Tom and Kath will play an extraordinary piece by the ever popular Caroline Shaw and Ellie and Toby will play two tracks from the American Folk duo Warren and Flick. Toby will then be joined by Eleanor to amaze you all with an extremely virtuosic Intermezzo and Tarantella by Reinhold Gliére which will see him going to heights on the double bass you wouldn’t think possible!
